I recently joined an institution's AI startup accelerator, and while scrambling to find unmet user needs, I stumbled on a really interesting pain point. I scoured all the tattoo-related sites out there, and found everyone was competing to generate pretty design drafts. But as a developer, I felt something was missing. The worst part of getting a tattoo isn't lacking design ideas — it's that you can't undo it once it's on your skin. Lots of people see a design online they love, only to regret it once it's inked on their arm or back. Since AI tech is so advanced now, why not let users see exactly how that design will look on their own body before the needle even touches their skin? So I built this site: InkStudio.ai. I designed two core features for it from the start: 1. More than just design generation: I optimized the AI specifically for common tattoo styles (linework, black and grey, Old School, etc.) to make sure the generated designs are actually tattooable, not flashy, unrealistic artwork that's impossible to ink. 2. Skin-on preview: This is the feature I cared about most. It lets users simulate how the generated design will look when applied to their skin, so they have a clear idea of the final result before getting inked. Current status: The site just launched recently, so there are still lots of kinks to work out (for example, the perspective for complex body parts might not be perfect yet). My personal goal: I didn't build this site to make some big splash. I just wanted to take advantage of this accelerator program to see if AI can actually solve that small but very real "regret" pain point for people.
