About

VoiceInput is a menu-bar dictation app for macOS. Hold Right Option, speak, release, and the text is typed into whichever app has focus, with no separate window and no copy and paste.

Recognition has three routes. The default is a hosted engine that needs no setup and includes 60 minutes a month on the free plan. Two engines run entirely on your Mac, SenseVoice and Apple Speech Recognition, and both are free with no usage cap, so you can work offline. If you already pay for an OpenAI-compatible model, you can add your own API key for the optional cleanup step and pay your provider directly.

The cleanup step is narrow on purpose: it fixes homophones, drops filler words and adds punctuation. It does not add words you did not say, and a separate key inserts your raw text with no cleanup at all.

Every dictation is stored on your Mac with its source app and time. You can search and filter the history and export it as TXT, CSV or JSON. An optional memory layer reviews your week with several writing personas.

The Mac app is distributed as a notarized DMG and through Homebrew, runs on macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel, and updates itself with Sparkle. A separate iPhone keyboard, VoiceInput Keyboard, is on the App Store; it is a standalone system keyboard and its feature set differs from the Mac app.
