Every city has at most 30 truly great local institutions — the old-name restaurants locals have eaten at since childhood. They may look ordinary, but they are first-rate: some make just two or three dishes and perfect them. And because of where we live, each of us can only ever know about 10 of them.

Tourists usually pick where to eat from TikTok and Dianping, and keep getting burned by whatever is trending. Chengwei skips the internet-famous places. We don't choose dishes — we choose restaurants. A good restaurant always draws a crowd and keeps its ingredients fresh, so it stays beloved. Our starting point is the mom-and-pop shops and the old-name institutions.

Here, every food lover upvotes the restaurants that satisfy them, then reviews, checks in, takes photos and collects a stamp in the app. Finish all 30 restaurants, fill all 30 stamps, and you'll feel genuinely proud — and post your map to Moments. A new way of exploring a city catches on.

We start with 30 restaurants in Shenzhen. What if every city in Guangdong had 30? Every city in China? Every city — every country — in the world? I believe this is the future.
